OUT OF MY MIND by Sharon M. Draper

For eleven years Melody has heard words, learned words and thought words but has never uttered a single syllable. Doctors and most teachers have no idea what goes on in her head but her parents and next door neighbor have never given up on her. Her cerebral palsy limits her body but not her mind and Melody's intelligence begins to shine when her aide helps her find a computer that will give her a voice. Melody is not just book smart. She has figured out the school yard antics and cattiness of girls and after a near tragedy she learns who her true friends really are. Her parents are so loving and giving and Melody has true support from her neighbor Mrs. V and school aide Catherine. A wonderful book that really makes you stop and think.
